We're nearly done building our replica villa on the Kapiti Coast. This is my blog which has been taken over by updates on the project. You can also see some pics and some technical stuff about systems, insulation, home-networking and the like.

I also use several online forums, interested in folk attempting similar things. (I post as "phptek")

Eco-Journalism is a Hard Thing

George Monbiot is luckier than most as he is a journalist working for an 'almost free' media outlet.

However, to tell the truth or misrepresent the truth, that is the question.

I hope you'll agree with me that this is one of the most concise pieces on the inherant problems with how much of what is important in the world works, or doesn't work–today:

"With a small, rational part of the brain, we recognise that our existence is governed by material realities. We recognise that as those realities change, so will our lives. But underlying this awareness is a deep semi-consciousness. This absorbs the moment in which we live, then generalises it, projecting our future lives as repeated instances of the present. This, not the superficial world of our reason, is our true reality."

George Monbiot on the inherent problems of Environmental Journalism.

Thanks for making the effort to read it, it's one of the best pieces I think I have ever read.

Cheers.
