Music, books, interesting and random stuff is the order of the day in this section.
Music is important to just about everyone. And also, just like about anyone else you're likely to ask - the reply to the question "What kind of music do you like" would be: "Pretty much anything".
Now wait just a second though, as I'm about to elaborate a little. In the main - electronica is my forte. Electronica in the form of Techno (DJs like Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills and older Carl Cox mixes), in the form of Drum & Bass (Bands like NZ's own Pitch Black, UK's Adam F - [the first album "Colours"] and pretty much anything by LTJ Bukem) and what I'm into now which takes the form of Electro with Djs and artists like: Felix Da Housecat, Miss Kittin, Dave Clarke, Billy Nasty etc etc.
Anzac weekend, 2006 saw eleven intrepid mini-golfers battle it out over nine different courses around New Zealand's lower north island. Check out my write-up and photos to see how we faired.
My sis Odette is lovely. She is a UK based singer/songwriter and if I do say so myself she is way up there with all the currently signed acts in her genre. Check out her site where you can download some of her music too.
Just before I came out to New Zealand I went through a buying frenzy on eBay for no logical reason, and managed to bag the entire collection of Reactivate CDs.
These babies went out of production in about 2000 or thereabouts after a run of only 18 mix CDs. As far as I know from the React site (now renamed Resist Music) there was some sort of copyright or other legal issue, that prevented them continuing with the series.
I was quite miffed to hear about this at the time, as I could almost always rely on them to be a fine representation of the kinds of Techno and Trance that I was into. If the truth be told, it all sounds as fresh to me now as when I listened to some of it back in 1995. Apart from possibly the old skool hardcore and rave stuff from the 1st to the 4th CDs though.
After Reactivate 7 the artwork started to get really cool, always different creatures - mostly sea creatures as far as I can ascertain, designed in a very consistent cartoon style. If I could be bothered, I'd blow a couple of 'em up to poster size - probably the Octopus (Reactivate #8) or the crab (Reactivate #10) as these are my favourites.
If pushed, I'd have to say that #10 is my fave CD of the lot. The pacey style of the trance on there, especially track 7: Blue Alphabet, "Cybertrance" - has always got me going. It was also the first one I ever bought when I was away from Uni for the summer in 1995.
Oh the memories...
Anyways, I bid almost £30 for three of these pups (1,2 & 3) and a lot less for one or two of the others. The rest I already had in my "collection" - check 'em out in the pic below:
